IA Employees Join in Earth Day Cleanup on Westside

Employees of Invest Atlanta, which has contributed $3 million to assemble land and remove blight in the Westside Tax Allocation District (TAD) neighborhoods, joined NPU-L community leaders and residents in an Earth Day cleanup of those neighborhoods last month. Among other things, IA workers donned protective double gloves in order to safely pick up items that included discarded needles left behind by drug users.

Invest Atlanta made a major contribution to the Westside area’s growth and improvement back in 2012, when it pledged $15 million to promote community-based catalytic development projects that furthered the expressed goals and objectives of the Westside TAD Neighborhoods Strategic Implementation Plan. The Plan’s first phase, to stabilize the community, is all about making the Westside clean and safe.

The Westside TAD, one of the oldest TADs in Atlanta, was formed in 1992. Six years later, the English Avenue and Vine City neighborhoods were brought into the Westside TAD fold to foster more equitable development throughout Downtown and Westside Atlanta.
