Critical Repair Work Begins on Five Westside Homes

Monday, February 13, 2017

Five homes in the Vine City and English Avenue neighborhoods will receive repairs as part of an Invest Atlanta owner-occupied home rehabilitation pilot program.  In December, Invest Atlanta issued a grant to partner Habitat for Humanity to complete the work, which will focus on repairs to roofs, plumbing, electrical systems, and other areas deemed critical to the life and safety of the occupants.

The success of the pilot program will allow Invest Atlanta and its partners—Habitat, the Atlanta Housing Authority, and Meals on Wheels—to move forward with expanding the program to additional Westside homes. The program will remain focused on residences owned and occupied by the elderly, disabled heads of households, and families who have been in their homes for many years and foregone necessary repairs.

Invest Atlanta has dedicated $2 million to assist in retaining existing homeowners in Vine City and English Avenue. Along with critical home repairs, the program for qualified low-to-moderate income households will also assist residents with estate planning and title issues. All repair work will be done through qualified third party contractors.
