As National Small Business Week comes to a close, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the importance of small businesses in our city. In fact, there are more than 18,000 small businesses in the Atlanta area, accounting for more than 360,000 jobs on average. These businesses, without a doubt, are a key part of the vitality of Atlanta’s economy.
So, when situations like the I-85 bridge collapse occur, it’s imperative for Invest Atlanta to do all we can to help. On the Monday after the I-85 incident, we were walking the streets and talking to businesses in the area. Our objective was simple: to hear firsthand about their issues and concerns so we could react and support them as best as possible.
As a result, we are sponsoring a Small Business Resource Event on Tuesday, May 9 targeting the 400 plus businesses within one mile of the incident. We brought together the services they told us they needed. From information about loans and cash flow to delivery options, providers will be on hand with solutions. For the Invest Atlanta team, our goal is to ensure that every business and every employee are still in place once the bridge opens and normal business activity resumes.
We are committed to making Atlanta the most competitive city in the world. We recognize that the only way to do this is to ensure that all Atlantans and businesses have the opportunity and an environment for economic growth and prosperity. It is for this reason that we proudly exist.
A special ‘thank you’ to each and every small business for your contributions to making Atlanta the vibrant city it is and will continue to become.
